Senior Network & Security Support Engineer (Palo Alto Firewall) 

 

The Senior Security Operations Engineer will work collaboratively across multiple IT functions, employees and vendors to ensure that IT operations for cloud and on premise global security infrastructure is reliable and scalable. Planning and implementing programs to enable global server infrastructure to operate effectively and scale reliably. Operational excellence and continuous improvement activities for Global IT Operations through IT Services Management, process and procedures. 

People or Process Management Responsibility: 
Individual contributor. 

Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to: 
• Support and Administration of network security systems (Palo Alto, Cisco. Fortinet Firewalls)
• Maintaining enterprise firewalls, virtual private networks, web protocols, and email security. 
• Provide operational support for Network Security Products and Services which primarily will be focused on major Firewall related projects (new deployments, hardware refresh/upgrades, and migrations) as well as (E-mail and Anti-Spam technologies, Intrusion Detection Systems, Denial of Service Protection, Network Access Control, and Vulnerability Scanning, etc.) 
• Security policy administration on various products that are under the team’s support 
• Developing tracking documents to note system vulnerabilities. 
• Reporting the security analysis and monitoring findings. 
• Work with operations and engineering teams (Network, Server, Storage and Application) to implement changes, troubleshoot issues and resolve incidents with security infrastructure 
• Adhering to department policies, procedures, and training plans for security administration and appropriate use 
• Responsible for troubleshooting and processing operational tickets received from Tier 1 and Tier 2 support personnel as well as escalated incidents that are received from other sources 
• Responsible for the service delivery of our server operations managed service provider(s). 
• Participates in the current and future ITSM processes including but not limited to incident, problem, and change control processes 
• Recognize, identify and prioritize incidents in accordance with customer business requirements, organizational policies and operational impact 
• Categorize issues for escalation and assign to appropriate technical teams where required 
• Act as escalation point for our managed service provider to review and resolve technical issues 
• Provide technical leadership and maintain accountability till issues are resolved to the business satisfaction 
• Participates in an on call rotation to provide operational support off hours and as required 
• Perform basic systems testing and operational tasks (installation of patches, network connectivity testing, script execution, etc.) 
• Enable and drive continuous improvement through the IT Service Center and Managed Service partners 
• Collect and review performance reports from various systems to identify issues, trends or develop recommendations to improve operational performance 
• Perform capacity planning, trend analysis and resource utilization reporting to manage and improve application and infrastructure operations 
• Work with internal and external technical and service teams to create and/or update knowledge base articles and runbooks to provide improved operational support 
• Develop and oversee the adherence to maintenance and performance standards 
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
• Any other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications :
Required Skills and Experience: 
• Bachelor of Science with a major in Information Technology or equivalent on-the-job experience required. 
• 5-7 years working experience, proficiency and advanced knowledge on Firewall platforms (Palo Alto, Cisco preferred) running routing protocols and next gen features such as IPS and Application detection rules 
• Experience managing vulnerability scanning asset groups and scanning profiles 
• Firewall deployment/configuration experience and troubleshooting application connectivity 
• Strong understanding of general networking and design (Firewalls, Routing, Load Balancing, OSI Model, TCP/IP, Packet trace and analysis using Wireshark and TCPDUMP) 
• Understanding of SMTP, TLS, DNS and related standards email security standards 
• Network Access Control techniques around 802.1x and MAC Authentication Bypass (MAB) 
• Intermediate Linux Sysadmin experience 
• Prior experience working with a managed service provider 
• Possesses excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of an organization. 
• Proficient in Microsoft Office 
• This position must pass a post-offer background and drug test. 

Preferred Skills and Experience: 
• CCNA-Security, CCNP-Security, CCIE-Security or PCNSE 
• Sound working knowledge of Internet/Intranet technologies including security features. 
• Sound working knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP 
• Experience with scripting in PowerShell, Python, PERL and Shell 
• Sound working knowledge of remote access technology.
